Home Visits
The home visit process is a crucial part of becoming a certified foster parent. Our structured approach ensures that families are well-prepared and supported throughout each step of their journey.
This thorough, step-by-step process ensures that families are fully prepared, informed, and supported at every stage, while meeting all required standards and expectations for fostering.
Here’s a breakdown of the process:
First Home Visit
-
The first interview takes place within a week of receiving the application and before the family starts PR training. During this visit, families will receive:
-
A binder for PR training
-
A binder with pre-service documentation and handbook
-
Assistance in completing the Intent to Foster form, thoroughly discussing the types of children/youth we work with
-
An overview of the Orientation & Approval Process using our PowerPoint presentation, which includes:
-
The referral process and how we select families
-
Age range statistics for referrals
-
Explanation of the roles of Family Consultants (FC) and Foster Services Specialists (FSS), and the support they provide
-
Home Environment Checklist review for bedroom and safety expectations
-
Discussion of physical/TB and DMV requirements, with due dates set
-
CPR training scheduling, with a 60-day due date for training
-
Review of essential documents to sign, including the Process/Status Agreement, Release of Information (if applicable), and the Electronic Signature Agreement
Second Home Visit
This interview is scheduled when the family finishes PR training. If the PR training is conducted by a different trainer, staff will attend the last training session to schedule the second interview. The second home visit focuses on:
-
Completing social histories and individual interviews
-
Discussing and signing CPS forms, either in person or via the electronic system
Third Home Visit
Held two weeks after the second interview, or as directed by the supervisor, this visit includes:
-
Completing any remaining social history information
-
Reviewing financial forms and completing them together if needed
-
Emergency plans: Completing the Plan of Evacuation and Disaster Preparedness & Emergency Response Plan
-
Reviewing the DEAL agreement
-
Ensuring that the home meets safety and bedroom expectations
